Devon Washstand

Previous

Willow Bend Collection™  proudly offers two versions of an adorable English washstand found in Devonshire, England.  As seen in the drawing, this piece originally had a bottom shelf for the porcelain water pitcher and the top shelf held the wash basin.  The slightly pointed splash rail and the slats on the shelf allowed moisture to quickly dry and also provided space for a towel, washcloth and bar of soap. These pieces were used in the bedroom in the days before indoor plumbing.

We have modified the original design to create a somewhat larger Devon washstand that can serve as a small desk or side table. It has a center drawer for small items. Constructed of solid Ponderosa Pine, these old-fashioned pieces are availabel in all finishes and look particularly great in primitive paint.
